Thai kratom
Thai Kratom from Its Country of Origin
Thai kratom comes from Thailand, where Mitragyna speciosa grows naturally and where farmers and labourers chewed the fresh leaf for generations to get through long days in the fields. This category holds three Thai powders: Thai Red, Thai Green and Thai White.
All three are made from dried, finely ground leaf. The difference lies in the harvest moment: white is picked earliest and feels the most uplifting, red is picked last and feels the most mellow. Thai kratom is sold to adults aged 18 and over only.

Thai Kratom: Tradition, Law and Three Colours
Thai kratom has the longest history of use of any origin in our range. In southern Thailand, chewing fresh kratom leaf was part of working life for centuries, much as coffee was drunk elsewhere. The leaf was picked from the tree, the tough central vein was removed, and the rest was chewed or steeped as a tea.
From Ban to Recognition
Thailand banned kratom in 1943, and the ban stayed in place for almost eighty years. Only in 2021 was kratom taken off the list of prohibited substances. Since then the leaf has been legal in Thailand again and is regarded as part of local culture. For customers in the Netherlands little changes, as kratom was already legal here, but it does explain why Thai origin is widely available again.
Thai Kratom and Maeng Da
Mention Thai kratom and Maeng Da soon comes up. That selection is Thai in origin and was developed through grafting into leaf with a higher alkaloid content. The Thai powders in this category are standard leaf powder, which makes them the milder and more traditional choice. Maeng Da has its own category.
Thai Red, Green and White Compared
Thai White is harvested before the vein has fully changed colour. Customers mostly use it in the morning, when they want to stay clear-headed. Thai Green sits in the middle and comes closest to the traditional daytime use. Thai Red is picked last and is the variety most customers keep for the evening.
All three contain mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. The ratio shifts with the harvest moment, and the profile shifts with it. If you would like to try Thai kratom in another form, our kratom extracts include a Thai resin.
Using Thai Kratom Sensibly
Start with 1 to 2 grams and only build up once you know how you respond. The effect depends on the dose: a little usually feels energising, a lot feels sedating. Never combine kratom with alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines or other sedatives, nor with MAO inhibitors. If you take medication, discuss it with your doctor first. Kratom is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not drive after use, and take a break of a few days on a regular basis. Kratom is legal in the Netherlands and we only sell it to adults aged 18 and over. The law may differ in other countries, so check it yourself.
Frequently Asked Questions about Thai Kratom
Was kratom banned in Thailand?
Yes, from 1943 until 2021. Since the change in the law in 2021, kratom has been legal in Thailand again.
What is the difference between Thai kratom and Maeng Da?
Maeng Da is a Thai selection with a relatively high alkaloid content. The Thai kratom in this category is standard leaf powder and therefore milder. With Maeng Da you start at a lower dose.
Which Thai kratom should you choose for daytime?
Thai White and Thai Green are the usual daytime choices. Most customers keep Thai Red for the evening.
How was kratom traditionally used in Thailand?
Fresh leaf was chewed, often after removing the central vein, or steeped as a tea. Ground powder like ours is a later, more practical form, since fresh leaf is not available outside the region.
