Dream Herb (Calea zacatechichi), TPA alkaloid extract 3%
Calea zacatechichi, known as dream herb, is a shrubby plant from Mexico and Central America. The name "zacatechichi" comes from the Nahuatl "zacatl chichic", meaning "bitter grass", a reference to its pronounced bitter taste. The herb has been used for generations by the Chontal Indians of the state of Oaxaca, who use it in dream work and oracle practices: traditionally it is drunk as a tea or smoked before sleep, in the belief that this supports clear, memorable dreams.
This extract is produced with the TPA method (Total Purified Alkaloids): the alkaloids are isolated from the plant material through several extraction and purification steps and then dissolved in an ethanol and water base to a concentration of 3%. The result is a clear liquid extract without plant residue, wax or chlorophyll, more concentrated than the dried herb.
Dosage
Start with 5 to 10 drops (about 0.25-0.5 ml), preferably shortly before going to sleep, and assess your response before increasing the dose.
Use
The extract can be taken sublingually (drops under the tongue) or diluted in a small amount of water; the taste is sharp due to the ethanol content and the herb's natural bitterness, so diluting makes it more pleasant. The dream-supporting effect attributed to Calea zacatechichi is traditional use, not a scientifically established effect.
Storage
Store the extract cool, dark and upright with the cap closed, out of reach of children. Close the cap tightly after use to prevent the ethanol from evaporating. At Dutch-Smart you will also find dream herb as a dried herb, as a 10x extract and as a growing seed.
