Voacanga africana seeds | 5 grams

Voacanga africana is a small tropical tree from West and Central Africa. Its bark and seeds contain iboga-type alkaloids chemically related to ibogaine, the compound found in the better-known Tabernanthe iboga. These seeds are sold as an ethnobotanical specimen for growers and collectors, not intended for human consumption.

An iboga-related alkaloid tree

Voacanga africana originates from the tropical rainforests of West and Central Africa. The tree's bark and seeds contain up to roughly 10% iboga-type indole alkaloids, with voacamine as the main alkaloid. These compounds are chemically related to ibogaine, the best-known alkaloid from the Tabernanthe iboga plant, though Voacanga is a different species with its own alkaloid profile. In parts of Africa the plant holds a traditional, ethnobotanical role; well-documented scientific research into its effects in humans is largely lacking.

What we do and don't know

User reports on Voacanga seeds vary widely: from barely noticeable effects to more intense dreams or a mild psychedelic feeling without clear visual effects. There is no controlled human research, and the amount of active alkaloids can vary significantly between seed batches. Older pharmacology sources describe a stimulant effect on the heart for some Voacanga alkaloids, though this hasn't been consistently demonstrated. Because of this uncertainty, we sell these seeds as an ethnobotanical specimen for research, cultivation and collecting purposes, not with any dosing or effect claims as a consumable product.

Growing from seed

If you want to germinate the seeds, keep in mind this can take several months; Voacanga seeds germinate slowly and unevenly compared to many other tropical species. A moist, warm environment with good drainage gives the best chance of germination. Once sprouted, Voacanga africana grows into a small tree or large shrub, best kept as a container plant in temperate climates.

Storage

Store the seeds cool, dry and dark in their packaging until you're ready to plant them, out of reach of children. Seeds stored for a long time in damp conditions lose viability, so plant them in good time if growing is your goal.
