Swift-Lite Shisha Coals – 33mm, Pack of 10
According to the manufacturer's own website, Swift-Lite has been active in the United Kingdom since 1957. The company originally developed a fast-lighting charcoal tablet for the incense market; it later grew into one of the better-known brands for hookah charcoal. These 33mm coals are quick-light: no lighter fluid or extra tools are needed, they light directly with a lighter or a coal burner. According to the brand's own company history, the fast-lighting tablet was more or less accidentally developed in 1959 in Neasden, North London, by Bernard Delaunay, who was originally looking for a convenient charcoal for the incense market. It only later grew into a separate standard for hookah charcoal, now exported to dozens of countries.
Use
Light the coal with a lighter or a dedicated coal burner and hold it until the edges start to glow and develop a light grey ash layer, which usually takes a few minutes. Place the coal on the foil above the bowl, with the tobacco underneath, and let it sit for about a minute before drawing on the hose so the tobacco can heat up. Turn the coal occasionally for an even glow, and reposition it slightly if the draw feels too heavy or too light.
Storage
Store the coals somewhere dry, away from open flames or heat sources. Damp coals are harder to light and can burn unevenly, so keep the pack sealed until use.
