Banjara Aztec Benzoin: incense with benzoin resin
Benzoin is a resin released when the bark of certain Styrax trees is cut, mainly in Southeast Asia. Once dried, it smells warm and sweet, with a note that recalls vanilla. That's why benzoin has been part of incense blends for centuries, including those used in churches. Banjara rolls these sticks by hand and works the resin into the Benzoin variant of the Aztec series.
What does it smell like?
Softer and rounder than most wood scents. Benzoin isn't sharp and lingers in a room for a long time without taking over. If you like vanilla, amber or balsam, this one is for you. For something drier and woodier, alternate it with the Aztec Sandalwood.
Lighting it
Hold a flame to the tip until it burns for a few seconds. Blow out the flame so the end glows and starts to smoke. Banjara calls the line smudge incense, after the practice of deliberately letting smoke drift through a room. Whether you do that or simply let it burn while you read is up to you.

Burning safely
Put the stick in a heat-resistant holder that catches the ash. Never leave burning incense unattended and keep it away from curtains, paper, children and pets. Incense smoke is still smoke: burn it in a ventilated room and open a window for a while afterwards.
